Looking Glass has announced that its holographic displays now support iOS via Unity integration. The update allows creators to power and run real-time apps and 3D media using only an iPhone or iPad.
The latest generation of iPhones and iPads can now power 3D multi-view displays, such as the Looking Glass 6″ Go and Looking Glass 16″. The development supports Unity apps that benefit from 3D visualization, enabling seamless integration into apps built for the Apple ecosystem.
“We are at an exciting crossroads where mobile technology meets 3D display,” said Rob Kodadek, COO of Looking Glass. “With support for iOS, app creators and developers now have a new way to bring multimedia and interactive apps to life and share them in 3D, with a drastic reduction in hardware.”
Several Looking Glass iOS projects are currently in development, including a Looking Glass holographic video player and an external avatar project from the Gugenka company.
Looking Glass’ Holographic Video Player will allow users of iPhone 15 or newer to turn their cinematic videos into holographic media that can be displayed in 3D on the new Looking Glass Go and Looking Glass 16-inch displays. The videos can then be shared with others. A beta version of this app along with the updated Unity plugin with iOS development capabilities will be released in January 2025.
Gugenka’s HoloModels is the first third-party app to integrate with Looking Glass displays, starting with the 6-inch Looking Glass Go. iOS users can now connect their devices to bring their 3D avatars to life on an external Looking Glass display.
Looking Glass will showcase all current and upcoming products and applications at CES 2025.
