Summary
- An update to YouTube Music brings a minor overhaul to the Top Songs section on an artist’s page.
- This includes a new side-scrolling carousel for up to 20 songs, paired with a Play All button.
- The redesign appeared on the Android and iOS versions of YouTube Music, but it is not widely available.
Although YouTube Music lags behind industry giants like Spotify and Apple Music, it’s still among the best music streaming apps you’ll find today. Feature additions are a big part of why the Google-owned service has remained relevant despite fierce competition. Continuing this tradition, the app is currently rolling out a key design change, designed to let you instantly listen to an artist’s best songs.

A small but significant change
First spotted by the people of 9to5GoogleTHE Best songs The section of an artist page now has a horizontally scrolling carousel, displaying four songs each. There are five pages you can browse, giving you access to a total of 20 tracks. I can see this feature useful for quickly browsing top songs from a new artist without tapping the chevron in the Best songs section to see all songs.
Facilitate musical discovery
Current design of the Top Songs section compared to the updated version
To make things more convenient, YouTube Music also brings the familiar Play everything button here to start playing all songs in the carousel. If you think that 20 songs are not enough to fully understand the artist’s talents, the chevron gives you access to the complete catalog.
9to5Google notes that this update Best songs is widely available on YouTube Music for Android and iOS. I still don’t see the updated carousel or the Play everything button on either platform, though. This suggests that its rollout is only gradual at the moment. Being on the latest version of YouTube Music doesn’t appear to trigger the redesign either, so it’s likely to reach devices as part of a server-side update over the coming days and weeks.
The design of this carousel is indistinguishable from Quick Picks carousel in the Home tab of the app, while other sections like Covers and remixes, Shorts trendetc., also use the same layout. This should ensure familiarity for frequent users of the app.
