With these new tools, you can ask AI to rewrite a business email to make it appear more professional or friendly, or you can ask AI to proofread what you’ve written. These tools can be used anywhere you type a message, like Messages, Mail, and third-party apps like Instagram.
Here’s how to use AI to make your messages stand out. Just be aware that these tools are only available on the iPhone 16 line and the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, and you must request access to Apple Intelligence. Otherwise, you will not be able to use these tools at this time.
What to know about writing tools in Apple Intelligence
All Apple Intelligence-enabled devices have a new menu on their keyboard called Writing Tools. You can find this menu by highlighting your text and pressing Writing tools in the floating menu on your text. You can also access writing tools by tapping the Apple Intelligence logo (the pink and blue atom symbol) in your keyboard menu.
Once you open the writing tools, you will see options for Reread Or Rewrite your text.
Tapping Reread will check your text for grammatical errors. If it does not detect any errors, it will show you the message “No changes recommended”.
Tapping Rewrite will adjust your message by changing words or describing things in more detail. After typing Rewriteyou can press Original to see what your original text was, or you can press Rewrite again and Apple Intelligence will try again. However, I discovered that after typing Rewrite four times on a particular text, it didn’t change the text at all. The number of times you can press Rewrite However, before you stop receiving edits, it probably depends on the length of your text.
There are also options to give your text a Friendly, Professional Or Concise tone. Tapping Friendlyfor example, will make your text read more informally and sound like chatting with a friend and pressing Professional will make your text safe for work.
Depending on the content of your text, you might receive a message saying: “The writing tools are not designed to work with this type of content.” I received this message when I used profanity, and it seems to be intended to dissuade you from going further. However, you can press Continue in the upper right corner of the menu and Apple Intelligence will still review your message. So if you type in “This is bullshit” and ask Apple Intelligence to make it sound more professional, it might say, “This statement is inaccurate,” which has become part of my intelligence vocabulary. business.
If you like what Apple Intelligence has created, tap Do in the upper right corner of the menu and the changes will remain. If you don’t like what Apple Intelligence has created, you can tap To come back in the upper left corner of the menu and you will be taken to the Writing Tools menu. You can also press Original to check what your original text was.
Quickly edit longer text with Apple Intelligence
You don’t need to go through the Writing Tools menu to proofread or revise longer text. Instead, highlight all the text you want to edit and the options Reread And Rewrite will appear in the menu on your keyboard.
These buttons work the same way as in the Writing Tools menu. If you are happy with your message, tap Do to replace your message with the rewritten version. But if you prefer your original message, tap To come back to delete all changes.
Remember that you should always proofread your text if you use one of these tools. Since this is AI, your revised message may contain errors or make no sense depending on the context.
