Released in December, iOS 18.2 was riddled with annoying bugs. iPhone users have reported battery drain issues, Camera Control feature not working as expected, and even more errors. Fortunately, iOS 18.2.1 fixed most of them.
After a month of beta testing, iOS 18.3 should fix even more bugs that Apple hasn’t fixed yet. According to the iOS 18.3 RC release notes, this update will fix the following issues:
- The calculator repeats the last math operation when you press the equal sign again
- Fixes an issue where the keyboard may disappear when launching a typed Siri query
- Fixes an issue where audio continues playing until the end of the song, even after closing Apple Music
In addition to this, Apple fixed other smaller bugs during the beta phase of iOS 18.3, including:
- Genmoji: A custom Genmoji might not be generated without first selecting another person
- Health Kit: The HealthKit permission granted by the user for a data type may not persist, preventing the app from accessing the data and possibly asking the user again for permission.
- Writing tools: For third-party apps adopting the Writing Tools API on iOS, if the first responder is not a UIView, they will not be able to use the full inline experience.
Besides these iOS 18.3 bug fixes, the company only fixed one major change with this update, related to notification summaries:
- Easily manage notification summary settings from the lock screen
- Updated styling for summary notifications better distinguishes them from other notifications by using italicized text as well as the glyph.
- Notification summaries for news and entertainment apps are temporarily unavailable, and users who opt-in will see them again when the feature becomes available.
iOS 18.3 is expected to be released next week alongside iPadOS 18.3, macOS 15.3, watchOS 11.3, tvOS 18.3, and visionOS 2.3. We’ll let you know if we discover more features and bug fixes in these updates.
