Tl; DR

  • The Chinese company Deepseek has published its image models Janus Pro.
  • The company claims that these models can compete or beat a stable and Dall-E 3 broadcast in references.
  • An online demo does not provide excellent results, but it is not clear if this is representative of the final model.

The Chinese company Deepseek made waves after having released the depth model R1 AI. The new model provides competitive results with OPENAI models while apparently requiring a fraction of the training budget and using older AI chips. Now, the company has published an improved image model that is apparently fighting for large dog dogs.

Deepseek launched its Janus Pro series of image models on Github and Hugging Face, and it is available in parameter models at one billion and seven billion dollars. Interestingly, the company affirms that this last model can compete with a stable and Dall-E 3 distribution in the references. It should be noted that these are only a few benchmarks, while this comparison was made to older versions of stable diffusion. But it is always a fairly impressive achievement if it is confirmed.

It should also be noted that Janus Pro image downloads are limited to 384 x 384 pixels (H / T: Techcrunch), although the output size of the image is not clear. For what it is worth, the images generated via the Huggingface demo have a size of 768 x 768 pixels. We therefore hope that Deepseek tackles this contribution gap in the near future.

The company has nevertheless published a series of images comparing the JANUS Initial model to the Janus Pro 7B model, apparently revealing a major upgrade. Check them below.

There is also a Demo of the Janus Pro 7B model On Hugging Face, although I was very disappointed. Discover the image generated by the demo (on the left) compared to the Copilot Microsoft version (supplied by Dall-E 3) when I asked both to generate an F1 car leading through Monaco. We asked the Deepseek team if the demo was representative of the final model. However, your mileage could vary.

Nevertheless, the release of Janus Pro occurs shortly after the AI assistant of Deepseek became the most popular free application of the Apple App Store. Android authority The DHRUV Bhutani contributor went by hand with the new application, noting that she delivered a higher quality production than Chatgpt. He also praised the mainly free nature of the platform and the option of executing it locally.
