The google widget shortcuts arrive for your Android home screen

Tl; DR

  • Google has been testing new shortcuts for its home screen search widget since last year.
  • With the latest update of the Google application, you finally have the possibility of choosing a shortcut to add.
  • The options include translate (text), translate (camera), research of songs, weather, sport, dictionary, homework and financing.

Google clearly likes to create new applications and services, but perhaps even more than that, he likes to offer new ways to access you. When the company has something it really wants to promote, you better believe that you will see shortcuts appear everywhere in your Android device, making sure you are never more than a couple. After checking the first works last year to bring us another practical way to access this good Googley, we finally see the arrival of new shortcuts in the Widget of the Google Search home screen.

We had our first overview of this system in September, when we discovered development efforts to a new option of “shortcut” for the Google 4 × 1 widget – this is the one you can add manually to the screen pages Home, not the bottom of the bar launcher on the screen. This would allow you to select from one of the many options to add a new icon to the widget to quickly launch tools such as translation or search for current weather conditions. Later, we spotted an alternative interface with the separate shortcut of the main search bar of the widget, living in a circle on the side.

With the release of this week of the latest version 16.3.34 of the Google Android application, 9TO5GOOGLE Noticed that these widget shortcuts are now available for everyone. The look we get is the first version of the interface that we have shared, with our shortcut icons directly integrated into the main search bar.

All in all, you have your choice of eight to add: translate (text), translate (camera), research of songs, weather, sport, dictionary, homework and finance. You can also choose to add any and simply keep the existing voice and objective search icons.

In addition to the shortcuts, we also see the widget showing the easy personalized colored sliders that we previewed last fall.
