One of the best features of Pixel phones is their ability to identify music playing nearby and displaying the title of the song and the artist’s name on the lock screen. Known as “Now Playing”, functionality is a favorite of fans since Google introduced it to Pixel 2, helping users instantly recognize the songs they hear in restaurants, cars or other public spaces. However, it seems that playing important problems now on pixel devices, with its seriously altered functionality for months.
What is the problem?
Reddit users report That their pixel phones are no longer able to recognize music when the reading function now is activated. Complaints, covering several months, highlights problems on devices ranging from Pixel 6 to the last Pixel 9 series. In fact, many users have resorted to the deactivation of functionality because of its lack of functionality.
A Reddit user shared: “With my Pixel 6, it was fantastic. It would recognize almost all songs, whether automatically or manually. But now it barely works. This user described a four -hour journey during which his pixel recognized only two songs playing in the car.
Another user commented: “horribly bad compared to previous versions”.
We can also confirm that the game does not work properly on our Pixel 8 Pro. In a test with 10 songs played on a nearby phone, the Pixel 8 Pro, with now activated, could only recognize one song. Even manually hit the research icon appears from an “music without music” invite despite the popular tracks back in the background.

Many sons on Reddit and Google community forums Echo similar frustrations with the game now. The problem was first raised on Google Tracker show Last year, but recent comments from a few days ago show that users continue to deal with important problems with functionality.
In an attempt to solve the problem, Google released An update of Android System Intelligence last month, promising “bug corrections and pixel improvements now playing the art functionality of the album”. Although this update has raised the hope that the game now would begin to function as it has done before, many users always experience problems with functionality.
Is there a bypass solution?
Several users have reported that they started encountering problems with reading now after updating their Pixel phones on Android 15. However, the update does not seem to be the final culprit. Obviously, uninstall Android 15 just to do the reading function now is not a viable solution. We prefer not to use the functionality rather than abandon all the other advantages provided with the last Android update.
However, some people seem to have been lucky with a bypass solution. A user recommends cleaning the cover for Android System Intelligence to try to solve the problem. To do this, head to Settings> Applications> All applications> Android System Intelligence On your pixel phone. Select the application and press Storage and cache, monitoring Cache erase.
Besides the above method, which did not work for us but could work for you, there is no other way to temporarily repair now by playing on your pixel phone. Google will have to examine the problem more deeply and deploy an update to implement a correction evenly on its devices. Until then, you can try alternative musical recognition applications like Shazam to identify songs playing near you.
