A small modification of Google contacts for Android makes explicit the current backup and synchronization status, while refining the account menu.
At the top of the Organization tab, you will find a new card noting the number of contacts in your Google account, the current e-mail address appearing in the first line. There is also the status of “last synchronization” with a cloud icon.
TAPPING THE CORNER INFO ICON explains how: “Contacts stored with your Google account automatically synchronize with this device and are available on Google Services wherever you log in, including contacts.google.com.”
Under the new card, you will find a “Google Contacts Sync: control the way the contacts save and synchronize”. This brings you to an identical page of Google Play Services which allows you to activate / deactivate “Google Contacts Sync”. Previously, you can access this page from the Google Contacts settings page, with an update elevation today.
The final modification is in the account menu. In addition to the status of “last synchronization” now appearing here, the selector no longer lists each default account. You must now press the chevron to extend this list. This can be embarrassing for some, but you can quickly change the accounts by sliding / descending from the home page.
This is deployed with Version 4.49 Google contacts for Android.
