The first beta version of iOS 18.4 is now available, and it includes a small but useful change for Carplay.
As we have noted in our list of iOS 18.4 features, Carplay now shows a third row of icons, against two lines before. However, this change is only visible in vehicles with a larger central screen. For example, a member of the MacRumors forum noticed the change In a Toyota Tundra, which can be equipped with a screen up to a 14 -inch screen.
And on a few wide screens, Carplay now displays five columns of icons, from the four standard.
In our tests, Carplay has always shown two rows of four icons in a Honda Civic with a 9 -inch screen.
Although it is only a minor change, Carplay showing more icons when possible is a good improvement in quality of life for the mirroring system of the Apple phone, allowing drivers to quickly access more applications with less scanning between the pages.
After beta tests, iOS 18.4 should be released to the public in early April.
