This concept phone supports full -size DSLR camera lenses, and we tried it

Tl; DR

  • Realme revealed his concept of interchangeable objective concept at the MWC 2025.
  • This phone has a camera’s camera sensor that can be associated with your existing Leica camera ledes.
  • Realme’s phone also includes two conventional smartphones cameras if you want to abandon the goal of the full -size camera.

Many higher camera phones now wear primary camera sensors with an inch, but you were not lucky if you wanted a zoom in an inch. Now Realme has shown a rather intriguing concept device at the MWC 2025, and we were able to go aside.

The smartphone of the interchangeable lens in the kingdom has a Sony Cmos camera sensor with a thumb that allows you to (surprise) attach DSLR camera lenses. Specifically, the manufacturer says that he uses Leica M support, so that most leica camera lenses support the device. However, Realme specifically boasts two camera lenses for its concept device, namely a 73 mm portrait lens (~ 3x) and a 234 mm (~ 10x) telephoto.

In addition to the sensor of an inch, the telephone is also shipped with a pair of conventional (main and ultraide) rear cameras. The main camera is always necessary because you cannot use the sensor of a thumb without camera lens. The whole bump of the camera, including the sensor of an inch, is covered with glass, so you do not need a lens cap when you have removed a lens module.

Interestingly, Realme has told us that the device really performs the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which has propelled many Android flagship phones in 2023. This certainly alludes to a concept that has been developing for a while.

What does this use this concept phone in the kingdom?

Our first impression is that it is a cool idea but with a dubious practice. The biggest problem is simply the weight of the lens, which also makes a distribution of clumsy weight. You will certainly not have a relaxed blows with one hand. It should also be noted that the rear coverage of the phone looks a lot like the ultra recently launched Xiaomi 15, although it is not necessarily a bad thing.

The concept of an interchangeable objective in kingdom also has no conventional telephoto lens due to space requirements for the exposed sensor of an inch. So, if you want to abandon the objective of the bulky camera lens, you will have to count on the digital zoom. We are also curious to see if the phone offers a zoom without loss depending on the objective used. For example, we wonder if the 10x objective would offer 20x zoom to a lossless resolution.

Unfortunately, our interior meeting room was not an excellent photography place, although we can confirm that the device works as expected. However, Realme has published some examples of online photos, as we can see below. You should take some of these shots with a pinch of salt until we can get our own samples, but that certainly portrays an encouraging image.

It should also be noted that this is not the first time that we have seen a concept phone with interchangeable lenses and an inch camera sensor. Xiaomi revealed his ultra concept 12S phone in 2022. This device was produced in partnership with Leica and also allowed you to set a Leica Lens module to a sensor of a thumb via the Mount M of the company.

Realm is not the only concept focused on the intriguing camera that we saw in Barcelona. Xiaomi has also announced the Xiaomi 15 concept, which is indeed an autonomous camera and lens system which enrolls magnetically at the back of a Xiaomi 15.

You should probably not hold your breath for a kingdom phone with interchangeable reflexible camera lenses so early. Nevertheless, we are happy to see companies test different approaches to smartphones photography.
