According to Bloomberg Mark GurmanApple’s next version of iOS 19 will focus more on expanding existing capacities of Apple intelligence, rather than the introduction of new ones.
Since the company is very late on making its iOS 18 Siri promises, it makes sense. Apple would also have postponed its plans to deliver a more conversational SIRI in iOS 19, by pushing this version to iOS 20 rather.
Apart from the Siri features, Gurman reports that iOS 19 will not have new features of major AI. Instead, we will see more of what we have now, just distribute on the ecosystem:
The bad news is that Apple is unlikely to reveal the new influence features on this upcoming WWDC. Instead, it will probably establish plans to provide current capacities to more applications.
It is not quite clear what it means. We may see Apple bring their summary features to more applications, or perhaps even open an API to developers. It is difficult to say what Apple expansion could plan, given the limited scope of its existing non-siri functionalities.
Nevertheless, iOS 19 seeks to be more a year of catching up for AI, rather than a huge stride forward. Apple still plans to publish the new backend “LLM Siri” with iOS 19.4, although the conversational assistant is delayed. In addition, Apple delayed its iOS 18.4 Siri features one day “in the coming year”, which could possibly mean iOS 19.
