A totally new look for iOS 19 will probably have a greater impact than the new Siri

A Bloomberg The report suggested yesterday that iOS 19 could get a completely new look, in the biggest change since iOS 7 in 2013. A similar change is expected for MacOS 16.

Although the report is light on the details, the few clues it provides gives the impression that the next software updates could almost a complete reversal of the flat look that we have had for more than a decade …

With iOS 7, Apple has abandoned all the 3D and skeuomorphic elements of the user interface in favor of very flat graphics that have since remained used.

The report – which can of course be correct – indicates that the new look will be “vaguely” based on Visionos.

The design is vaguely based on pro vision software (…)

Visionos differs from iOS and macOS in the use of circular application icons, a simplified approach to windows, translucent panels for navigation and greater use of 3D depth and shadows.

The quantity of this 3D look will result in devices with 2D user interfaces is not clear, but it seems that the appearance of our devices later this year will be completely different from everything that is seen in more than a decade.

Our editor -in -chief, Miller, said directly that a new radical look would serve an excellent way to distract progress always projected on the new Siri. But in truth, I think that many more Apple users will be seduced by a new look than what would never care about Siri.

Don’t mistake me: I Really I want Siri to be good. I am a big fan of vocal interaction and I dictate a lot of what other types. An Siri command to my nearest homepod is my usual way of controlling my smart house, and if I could use the assistant for more sophisticated tasks, I would absolutely do it.

I have been asking for a long time to transform Siri into a really intelligent smart assistant. In 2015, I asked that Siri be able to interact with our applications, so that we simply express an intention and the device is occupied with details. It was a full decade before Apple announced its intention to do exactly that – and we just learned that it will now take even more time than the company was expecting.

But there is a wrestling here. Siri was launched in 2011, and although more capacities have been added over the years, the harsh reality is that it has not become dramatically more intelligent since then. People are used to being disappointed that many users of Apple devices have practically abandoned it. Since so few people use it for so few tasks, he barely cares.

But a brand new look is entirely a different question. Of course, the new look introduced with iOS 7 was massively controversial, and many thought that Apple’s design head, Jony IVE, should never have been authorized near the company’s software side. But like it or hates it, you certainly couldn’t ignore it.

The same goes for a new 3D look, which could even include skeuomorphic elements (much more modern). It is probably possible that many will hate him that to love him during his first introduction, because this seems to be true for any significant change made by the company, but it will probably make more than any improvement for Siri that society can introduce, then or later.
