Apple deploys the iOS 18.4.1 update with fixes for used security vulnerabilities, Carplay’s problem

Apple deployed on Wednesday the iOS 18.4.1 update for iPhone. Update is not a major introduction and does not contain any new feature. Despite this, this is a crucial version that eligible iPhone users should update due to the inclusion of a corrective for major security vulnerabilities that would have been used to carry out an attack on iOS users. In addition, the iOS 18.4.1 update also rectifies a problem linked to Carplay.

IOS 18.4.1 update for iPhone

Apple Liberation notes For iOS 18.4.1 and iPados 18.4.1, the update indicates that the technological giant based in Cupertino has set a vulnerability in Coreaudio, a low level API on its mobile operating systems and tablets. Given the CVE-2025-31200 identifier, the flaw was discovered by Apple and the Google Threat analysis group. This would lead to the execution of the code when processing an audio flow in a maliciously manufactured multimedia file. Apple has solved the problem of corruption of memory with an improved limits verification.

The second defect was discovered in a safety characteristic itself; RPAC framework (Audio control remotely for participants). Although it allows communication between audio flows, the vulnerability caused an attacker with a capacity for reading and arbitrary writing to bypass the authentication of the pointer. The vulnerability was discovered by Apple, given the CVE-2025-31201 identifier, and has been corrected by deleting the vulnerable code.

Although security defects have been rectified, society claims that it is aware that the two problems may have been exploited in an extremely sophisticated attack against specific targeted individuals on iOS.

In addition to the security fixes, the Changelog indicates that the update also deals with a bug which “prevents carplay wireless connection in certain vehicles”.

Thus, users with eligible iPhone models are recommended at iOS 18.4.1. To do this, launch the Settings application and press General> Software update> Install now. The update is available for the iPhone XS and subsequent handsets, as well as for several iPad models.
