Reid Hoffman Praises Shopify’s Toby Lütke for His Recent Memo on AI

The billionaire of Reid Hoffman technology stressed that the recent internal note of the CEO of Shopify, Tobi Lütke, as a model for the way in which managers should think of AI.

The co -founder of LinkedIn said Wednesday episode of “possible” on Wednesday that the note is an “open source management technique”.

In an internal memo that Lütke shared last week, the CEO of electronic commerce wrote that the use of AI is “now a fundamental expectation of everyone in Shopify”.

“Before requesting more workforce and resources, the teams must demonstrate why they cannot get what they want to do by using AI,” wrote Lütke in the memo, that he published on X. “What would this field look like if autonomous AI agents were already part of the team? This question can lead to really amusing discussions and projects.”

Lütke added that questions of use of AI would also be added to the “Questionnaire on performance and peer journeys” of Shopify.

“This applies to all of us, including me and the management team,” he wrote.

On “possible”, Hoffman said that each leader, whether he manages a startup of five people or a giant business, should cook AI in the work of their teams.

To ensure that the integration of AI occurs, Hoffman has recommended a simple management approach. Hold weekly or monthly meetings so that everyone shares something new that he learned about using AI-whether to help them do their jobs better or help the whole business is easier, he said.

Even the director of people of Openai is a mood coding

Hoffman and other leaders should be AI is no longer only for technical staff.

In an episode of the Lenny podcast published last week, the director of OPENAI products, Kevin Weil, explained how the director of people in the company “vibrated” an internal tool. The executive used the AI to rebuild a system which it lacked in a previous job.

“If our director of people does, we have no excuse,” said Weil.

Vibe Coding, a term invented in February by the co -founder of Openai Andrej Karpathy, describes the invites of IA to write code. As he says, developers can “give in to vibrations” and “even forget the code”.

The Rise of Vibe coding has shaken the way people think about the development of software, and some engineers wonder if AI could put them out of employment. He also sparked a debate among investors on the question of whether technical skills are still a must for the founders of startups.

People should be “coding” everything instead of using static design files, Weil said.

“It is totally possible today, and we don’t do it enough,” added the product manager.
