I’m going to let you come on a big secret: I don’t like a large part of my work.
Okay, it is therefore a secret that most people can identify with, but in the past 15 years, I have worked for a technological publication and I find it difficult to be enthusiastic about phones. For me, it’s just a phone, a vehicle for developed software and a way to communicate with people in your life. Okay, may also have fun too. I am not dead inside.
Android & Chill
One of the oldest technological columns on the web, Android & Chill is your Saturday discussion on Android, Google and All Things Tech.
It’s not like I hated phones or other assorted technological things. I just am not very passionate about them. I’m going to tell you about things like aquariums, ancient cars or wood work. I am also very interesting electronics, but not the already built.
Anyone who has already worked with me can tell you that I TO DO hate examining phones. I have never been particularly good at that, having a little too critical eye, and I found myself unable to trust everything the manufacturer said about the product. I forced myself to be as objective as possible, without recommending products because I loved them, but because You could be able. I was there to let you know if they worked or not as announced.
Fortunately, my days of a new phone every few weeks and constantly testing things that do not interest me are mainly finished. I am happy to leave those who are skilled in doing so have all the “pleasure”, and I will be available for emergencies which, fortunately, rarely occur.
I mean that sometimes I want to take a look at something. The HMD horizon was an excellent example. I am often interested in a particular thing, such as new HMD repair construction techniques. I clearly show why I like it or I don’t like it, and I tend to editorialize my product reviews. Better than not being honest on this subject, right?
Anyway, I paid my own money for the phone that I use now (the Motorola Razr 2024) and I did not have to go through the hassles of defining anything else and using it every day for about a year now. I love him; both And Do not have to think about how to do anything with it.
I bought the razr because I tried the Galaxy Flip 6. Yes, it seems a little crazy, but I found that a phone that folds in a small package easier my life – there is not much room in your pockets when you sail in a wheelchair all day.
I went with Motorola, despite her horrible history by taking care of her customers by supporting his products, because there seemed to be more potential with the small display before. He does everything I need, and what do you know? It’s very good. Unless something that seems better happens, my next phone will probably be the same; Hoping that this lasts until at least 2026.
So, I spent a lot of words to talk about what I don’t like, but I like my job. This is because it is transformed by working and writing on the things that fascinate me: software, platforms and politicians.
For me, the software is elegant (or should be) and useful, even if it is limited in a plastic and glass shell. The screen only exists to present the software, the features are there to add value when they can, and the clutter of code and mathematics is what makes a technological product as a wonderful phone.
I hold the companies that make them, including (and especially) Google, according to the highest standards; Those they are probably unable to meet. For me, this implies that they should work harder to improve what the user experiences.
Their philosophy must shine through their products; Apple must build quite simple products, easy to use, but can also be powerful if that’s what you want. Google must give an example as the Android call for tenders; Show how to shine the software and how to manage the inevitable bugs that will occur. Samsung must continue to find ways to give consumers what they want this week, be willing to change speed if necessary.
Other companies must constantly try to find this thing that distinguishes them.
All of this is linked to the culture and policy of each society. Often, government policy will intertwine and help shape or force the situation. I find it all fascinating, and even when I do not work, I will spend at least a few hours on the internet by reading what others see and think about it.
At the end. I’m lucky to have a full -time concert that I like to do, even if I had the monkey with phones too often to get where I am today.
