Waldorf teases his next plugin since weekends. After emulation of microwave 1, they now bring the Blofeld to the DAW.

Waldorf Blofeld plugin
The Blofeld plugin is an emulation 1: 1 of the original Waldorf Blofeld equipment with the same features and features.
Three versatile oscillators form the foundation of the synthesizer. They can load classic wave shapes (sinus, saw, triangle, etc.), wavetables or samples. With parameters like wave scan or FM, you can deepen the oscillators.
The developers also considered the equipment function of the equipment. The plugin includes this function, but the equipment requires the Blofeld License SL option as an additional purchase.
The highest point of the Blofeld plugin is its management of wavetables and samples. It includes an integrated wave tool that loads user wavetables in the synth. It supports .Syx, .mid or wav files and allows you to determine their index and cycle length.
The same tool also has an export wave function to the equipment. So you can upgrade your Blofeld Material with new wavetables.
Working with samples is also simpler in the plugin than in the equipment. Waldorf has integrated a dedicated sampler manager in the Blofeld plugin, which allows you to import, modify and manage your samples.
Then you have a mixer with a ring modulation option between oscillators 2 and 3, the more synchronization and a multicolored noise generator.
Filtering and modulation
From there, it goes directly to the two multimode filters. Each filter has various modes, including emulation of the PPG low-low filter. The switched reader adds heat and character to the sound, and the FM filter makes it more unpredictable.
Like the equipment, it has four multimode envelopes (amplifier, filter and two mappables) and three LFOs. They can be sent directly to the parameter in the respective section or via the integrated advanced modulation matrix.
The Blofeld equipment arpeggiator is one of the most powerful of a Waldorf synthesizer, and it is also available in the plugin. In addition to 15 basic models, it offers a complex pattern editor to create variations, making it a powerful tool.
On the one hand, the implementation is very minimal. I would have liked to see a more beautifully designed version.
Multitimbral, sounds and publisher
One of the forces of Blofeld equipment still available is its multi -mint nature. In 2024, almost no other digital synthesizer had 16 multitimber parties. Yes, the plugin also has the popular multimode in 16 games.
In a dedicated multi-pages, you can access each layer with individual, transposed, pan and volume controls. You can also define the MIDI canal, the speed and the keyboard area for each room, allowing you to create complex layer sounds.
Further left in the tab bar is a powerful preset browser with a database structure and integrated integrated sorting and filter options. It is filled with all original material factory sounds from 2008 and 2012.
The key question is: Can I use the Blofeld plugin to modify my equipment? Yes, you can! The plugin has a Blofeld hardware synchronization function which allows you to control your equipment. In addition, it allows you to import individual sounds or sound banks directly into the plugin.
There are also MIDI files to the hardware function. Click on this dedicated button to send a Blofeld (.MID) bank on your computer’s hard drive to your Blofeld equipment. The user’s wave section and the sample manager also offer export functions to the equipment.

First impression
I used the plugin for almost 24 hours and I had a first impression. Soundwise is Blofeld, I know. I have been using the material version for almost 10 years, and the sound is very authentic and on the point. The material communication also works, but I did not have time to investigate more.
The only thing I don’t like is the graphical interface, which lacks inspiration in the structure or colors. Arpège, in particular, is super minimal and could be improved. Otherwise, it is an excellent synth plugin to sound at first glance.
It is great that there is now an official publisher for the Waldorf Blofeld after 16 years which also bears a complete emulation of this classic synth. I can’t wait to rediscover Blofeld during the software holidays.

Musical technology companies are slowly preparing for the holidays. Some still work hard. This includes Waldorf, which has already brought us the excellent microwave 1 as a plugin and iOS application this year.

Suppose Waldorf is as authentic as the microwave I. Until now, a problem with the Blofeld hardware synth has been the lack of quality publisher / librarian software. Many were good but always had their weaknesses. I hope Waldorf considered this feature in the plugin.
