Kadian Clayton, the father of sprinter Tia Clayton, says he expects a golden performance from his daughter in the women’s 100m at the Paris Olympics this afternoon.
Tia, along with fellow Jamaicans Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Sashalee Forbes, will line up today for the semi-finals.
His father, mother Tishana Pinnock-Williams, grandmother May-Antobell Campbell and other family members and supporters gathered in the Crowder community of Grange Hill, Westmoreland to watch the race.
Tia made her Olympic debut on Friday, finishing second in 11.00 in her heat behind Canada’s Audrey Ludec in a national record 10.95.
“My hope is to win gold,” his father said, beaming.
“I think she’s going to execute and do her best. She’s a little nervous, but I think she’s going to do her best because it’s her first big race different from the championships… so she’s a little nervous, but I think she’s going to execute the race and do it well,” she told her mother with a smile.
Kadian described Tia as a good girl who loves to run, which was echoed by her mother.
He remembers that as children, Tia and her twin sister Tina, who is also a sprinter, loved to run because they also went to the store.
He said he and their mother were happy to see their daughters living their dreams in athletics.
