We are not going to have a first overview of iOS 19 before the world’s June conference of developers, but while the work takes up the operating system at Apple headquarters in Cupertino, California, rumors are starting to escape. Ios 19 promises to be a major update, with some modifications that we have not seen Apple bring for at least 10 years.
Revised design
Apple apparently plans to revise the design of all its operating systems this year, including ios 19, iPados 19 and MacOS 16. The objective is a more unified design and functionalities language that makes the iPhone to Mac and Vice Versa feels less like a shock.
BloombergMark Gurman says that it will be the biggest update that Apple has made to the design of iPhone since the release of iOS 7 in 2013, and it is not only cosmetic either.
Apple plans to revise icons, menus, applications, windows, system buttons, etc., while modifying navigation and control.
The new look is based on the Apple Vision Pro interface, which has a lot of translucidity and a sensation of design which makes the operating system fades in the background to place the content in the front and the center.
We have heard rumors about what the updated design will do to the camera application, and it will have an overview that offers more screen space for photos of photos with translucent pop-out menus that can be slipped to select different camera modes.
Apple Intelligence
Apple will extend the features of Apple Intelligence to more than its integrated applications, but we have not heard many rumors about what will happen. Before the moment when iOS 18 was released, it was suggested that Apple could use Apple Intelligence for things like the generation of Apple Music reading lists, so this is an example of what we could see.
Siri updates
We know some of the features of intelligence apple to come, and it is because Apple actually announced them for ios 18 and then had to delay them.
Apple planned to add new intelligence features apple to Siri in ios 18, which makes the personal assistant smarter and perhaps really useful, but changes Siri are now organized up to ios 19 or an update of ios 19.
We are expecting a personal context, a conscience on the screen and a deeper integration of applications. The personal context will allow siri to keep track of everything on your IPhone, emails and files with photos and messages, helping you to do tasks and find content that you are looking for. Siri will be able to do things like finding a specific photo that someone has sent you, locate files or even find information like your passport number if you have written it in notes.
With a conscience on the screen, Siri can see what is on your screen and complete actions involving what you are looking at. If someone sends you an address, for example, you can say Siri to add it to your contact card.
The deeper integration of the application, or the intentions of applications, should make a notable difference in what Siri is capable. Siri can do more in and between applications, perform actions and perform tasks that are simply not possible at the moment. Apple says that Siri will be able to do things like moving files from one application to another, tasks in several complete steps like modifying a photo and sending it to someone, and more.
Apple also works on a complete LLM version of Siri which would be similar to chatbots like Chatgpt, Claude and Google Gemini, but with the functionality ios 18 siri delayed, it is likely that LLM Siri will not arrive before at least iOS 20.
A staggered deployment
With ios 18, not all features were in the update we obtained in September. The key functions of the intelligence of the reports were retained until iOS 18.1 and iOS 18.2, and this is a trend that we could see continuing with ios 19.
Apple retains the back characteristics provided for ios 19 until the spring of 2026, at least in part because of the work on the characteristics of the intelligence Siri apple which had to have come in ios 18.
Compatibility
Rumors suggest that ios 19 will be compatible with all the devices that can work ios 18, so if you have installed ios 18, you should in theory be able to operate ios 19. There are generally always features that require the treatment power of a more recent device, so it is quite possible that some new additions can be limited to the next iPhone 17 models.
Release date
Ios 19 will be previewed at WWDC in June, then Beta tested for several months before the launch in September alongside new iPhones.
