All variants of this Android phone of the year candidate will have IP68/69 protection

This Tuesday, January 7, the OnePlus 13 will be unveiled globally after already being introduced in China. OnePlus told Android Authority that all global variants of the OnePlus 13 will feature a dual IP68/69 protection rating corresponding to the dual IP68/IP69 protection against dust and water announced by OnePlus for the OnePlus 13 in China.

The IP68 rating means the phone is impervious to dust. This also means the phone can be submerged in clear water up to a depth of 1.5 meters (4 feet 11 inches) for up to 30 minutes. IP 69 means that the device is protected against high pressure hot water jets. This would indicate that the phone could be used on construction sites, in industrial environments and during outdoor activities in extreme weather conditions.

THE OnePlus 13 is expected to feature a 6.8-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1440 x 3168 and a variable refresh rate of 1Hz to 120Hz. The display has a peak brightness of 4,500 nits, making it bright and readable in sunny conditions. The phone will be powered by the powerful 3nm Snapdragon 8 Elite application processor. Different configurations of the phone will include 12GB, 16GB, and 24GB LPDDR5X RAM. Non-expandable storage options include 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB.

The rear camera array includes three 50 MP sensors supporting the main, ultra-wide and telephoto cameras. The front selfie camera weighs 32GB. The 6,000mAh battery supports 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. OnePlus 13 features an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor for faster and more accurate device unlocking.

We are a few days away from knowing everything about the global version of the OnePlus 13 and even if it will face competition from Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra early 2025 and the Pixel 10 Pro XL later this year, there’s a good chance the OnePlus 13 could be the Android phone of the year.
