AmazonThe main investor in the artificial intelligence startup Anthropic is based on AI models of this company to fuel the most advanced capacities of the new Alexa devices, according to two people familiar with the problem.

According to people, who asked not to be appointed by customers.

Earlier this week, Amazon unveiled its long -awaited overhaul of its ten -year -old devices. For the first time, Amazon will invoice users to access a version of Alexa. The “Alexa +” service will be $ 19.99 per month, or for free for Amazon Prime members, and will be deployed in early access next month.

During the demonstration this week, Alexa + was able to make dinner reservations, order races or reserve a UberMost of the tasks that were not possible with older versions. Alexa, formerly a leader in natural language and automatic learning, has been trained in competition since the emergence of generative AI chatbots like the Openai Chatppt, which quickly advanced beyond text conversations and in the audio generated by AI, images and videos.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy described the redesign as “recommended” Alexa’s brain.

In addition to its investment of around $ 8 billion in Anthropic, Amazon has developed its own AI models and deployed its Nova series at the end of last year. Amazon offers the Claude d’Anthropic model as part of its Amazon Web rocky substratum offer, which gives customers access to a variety of AI options. It allows users to choose between the Nova and Titan models of Amazon as well as Mistral and others.

Amazon said he had used the rocky substratum to feed Alexa. But Claude was the model that tackles the most complex tasks that the company presented during its event event in New York this week, the sources said. Claude fueled questions that take more reflection and “intellectual heft”, said a person.

Although Amazon AI models are always used, they manage the tasks that require less reasoning, these people said.

Anthropic refused to comment. Amazon did not immediately provide a comment.

As part of Amazon’s initial investment in Anthropic, the company was able to use a certain anthropogenic capacity for free in 18 months, according to a source. This agreement has now expired and the companies renegocate the terms of their agreement, said the person.

The anthropic model has extended far beyond Alexa within Amazon and also helps stimulate research and advertising of products, the person said.

Panos Panay, main vice-president of Amazon’s devices and services and the head of the Alexa overhaul, described Anthropic as a “brilliant” partner during this week’s event. Panay, who joined the company in 2023 after two decades in Microsoftsaid the fundamental anthropic model is “incredible”.

“We choose the model that suits the position,” Panay told CNBC in an interview on Wednesday. “We use Amazon’s rocky substratum – Alexa chooses the right model to do the work.”
