  • All Pixel phones can now use the fingerprint unlock function in Takeoff in Android 16 Beta 3.
  • The unlocking function of digital takeoff fingerprints allows you to unlock your pixel phone even when its screen is off.
  • It was introduced for the first time in Android 16 DP2 but only worked on the Pixel 9 series.

From Pixel 6, each Pixel phone (excluding foldable) has presented a fingerprint scanner under the internship. Unlike many other smartphones, however, Pixel phones currently require the screen so that the fingerprint scanner works. Fortunately, this limitation will be addressed in the next Android 16 update for Pixel.

The Android 16 update for Pixel phones is defined to introduce a new feature of unlocking fingerprints for takeoff. When this function is activated, the fingerprint scanner will be active even when the screen is off. To activate the unlocking function of digital take -off fingerprints, go to Settings> Safety and confidentiality> Unlocking the device> Unlocking face and digital fingerprints> Digital fingerprints unlocking. Then, in the section “When you use fingerprints”, activate the Unlocking fingerprints peelled to fall over.

Once activated, you can press the area of the fingerprint scanner when the screen is off, and the screen of your pixel phone lights up and unlocks if the correct finger is used.

Google initially introduced the unlocking function of digital take -off fingerprints in the second overview of Android 16 developer, but it was limited to the Google Pixel 9 series. However, with the release of Android 16 Beta 3, the company has expanded compatibility to all pixel phones. I confirmed that this worked on my 6a pixel, and a tester checked it on their Pixel 7 Pro. Although there is a possibility that Google can delete feature in the Stable Android 16 version, there is no apparent reason for them to do it.

If you prefer not to wait for the official version of Android 16 or join the beta program, activation of the display always on is your only current option to maintain the active fingerprint scanner. Otherwise, simply wait for the Android 16 deployment, then activate the fingerprint fingerprint unlocking in the fingerprint unlock settings, as it will be disabled by default.
