Android 16 prepares `Robust Open / Detection ” for Pixel 9 Pro Fold

Foldables use Room sensors (effect) To determine the open or closed condition. To avoid interference from magnetic accessories, the pixel fold can add “robust open detection / closure” with Android 16.

With Android 16 Beta 2, we received a report from Pixel 9 Pro Fold, encouraging a user to “Turn on a robust open / closure detection: If you use a magnetic accessory, turn on an open / closed robust detection in the settings. This helps your pixel to fold more precisely if it is open or closed. »»

This notification of the Pixel System Service offers a “light” button and suggest that you will find a corresponding hike in the Settings application. However, from beta 2, this preference does not yet appear. (This is somewhat similar to the initial deployment of limit to 80% load optimization.)

To date, the owners of Pixel Fold and Pixel 9 Pro Fold have noticed how to put a magnet, such as third -party Magsafe rings, at the back of the closed folding can briefly turn off the screen. This is due to the way the foldable use an internal magnet and a hall sensor to determine the open / firm state. Accessories can interfere with this functionality.

Google seems to prepare a solution with “robust open / narrow detection”. It is not clear which other material will be used to reduce interference and false positives. We hope it will also come to the original pixel fold.
