The number of Android and iPhone users struck by malicious banking software soars while criminals are moving more and more to mobile devices.
In a new reportThe cybersecurity company, Kaspersky, says that the number of smartphones users who met with malware in 2024 has climbed 258% in annual shift.
“In 2024, the number of users who met Trojan horses in mobile banks increased by 3.6 times compared to 2023: from 69,200 to 247,949.”
The most active mobile malware targeting bank accounts were Mamont, commanding a market share of around 36.7% in 2024.

European and Asia countries have been the most impacted by malicious software in mobile banks in the past year.
Regarding banking malware targeting PCs (personal computers), some of the most impacted countries in 2024 were in Central Asia, explains Kaspersky.
“As in 2023, the highest share of banking Trojan horses was recorded in Afghanistan, where it increased from 6% to 9% in 2024. Turkmenistan was as follows (as in 2023), where the figure went from 5.2% to 8.8%, and Tajikistan was in third place (still), where the figure went from 3.7% to 6.2%.”
In the future, Kaspersky’s senior web content analyst, Olga Svistanova, says that the level of sophistication that cybercriminals use to reach users will only go up.
“For the future, we expect financial phishing to become even more personalized and targeted, focusing on the exploitation of vulnerabilities in daily digital habits, which will require increased vigilance and in -depth approaches to protection.”
