The Minnesota Twins picked up a huge win in Game 2 – albeit on the road – against the Houston Astros to split their ALDS series at one game apiece.
Now, the Twins’ Sonny Gray will be on the mound for Minnesota’s Game 3 against Houston’s Cristian Javier.
Gray pitched five scoreless innings in the wild-card game against the Toronto Blue Jays to lead the Twins to victory. Can he back up Tuesday night’s performance?
He needs to beat a veteran Houston team that really wants to defend last season’s World Series title.

Houston’s bats cooled off in Game 2 after scoring six runs in Game 1 of this series, and I think the key to holding this game back is looking at the pitching.
Although Gray has an 8-8 record, he is extremely efficient with a 2.79 ERA and 2.83 FIP this season. He allowed over three ERA in just one start over the final two months of the season.
Meanwhile, Javier’s strikeout numbers have dropped this season, allowing at least three runs in eight of his final 11 starts this season, with an ERA of 5.00.
Houston is still 21-10 in the opener, but the team will need running support for him in this game to win.
I’m not impressed with what happened in Gray’s game, who has allowed just four runs in 13.0 innings against the Astros this season.
I would trust the better pitcher at home in this game.
