Axel Foley teaches Lions quarterback Jared Goff about Detroit

DETROITDetroit Lions strategist Jared Goff received advice from Beverly Hills cop Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) before the NFL Draft on his adjustment to the city after leaving the Los Angeles Rams.

Goff said he was nervous when he first arrived in Detroit in the 2021 trade.

Overwhelmed by the enormity of the change, Goff was eager to quickly assimilate into his new surroundings.

His desire to adapt quickly led him to seek advice from someone who could understand the nuances of both cities.

“Axel had so many things to teach me, like how to greet new teammates,” Goff said.

Using cruder language to start a conversation was the first lesson Goff learned.

“Who are you, swearer,” Foley asked.

The NFC North division champion said that when reconnecting with old friends, Foley suggested chastising their appearance.

“Hey, doesn’t he (Detective Billy Rosewood) look about 10 to 15 years older than me,” Foley asked. ” We are the same age. You look terrible.”

Foley also taught Goff how to be spontaneous, especially when a passer is breaking through the Lions’ offensive line, but the lessons didn’t stop there.

Goff said his most important lesson from Foley was to ignore criticism.

“What I learned the most from Axel was to ignore the criticism because guys like us, we’re the ones who have the last laugh,” Goff said.

The film is set to release on Netflix on July 3 during Lions training camp, so hopefully Foley’s lessons will be in full effect in front of his well-paid teammates.
