WHY WAS ROMELU LUKAKU’S GOAL EXCLUDED IN BELGIUM AGAINST SLOVAKIA?

Belgium fell behind in the first half after a goal from Slovakia Schranz.

Romelu Lukaku thought he had grabbed one back for his team after tapping the ball into an empty net following a Belgian corner. However, the goal was ruled out after replays showed Lukaku was just offside as Onana headed the ball towards the Inter Milan striker from a Leandro Trossard corner.

Belgium lost a golden opportunity to take the lead in the third minute. Jeremy Doku made a brilliant run and dismissed Kevin De Bryune in the boc, who pushed it towards Romelu Lukaku.

However, he hits Martin Dúbravka directly at close range.

A few minutes later, Belgium missed a back pass and the ball fell to Róbert Boženík, whose shot was initially saved by Koen Casteels. The rebound goes to Schranz who fires it into the back of the net from a tight angle.

THIBAUT COURTOIS NOT IN THE TEAM

Thibaut Courtois will not take part in Belgium’s opening Euro 2024 match against Slovakia at the Frankfurt Arena on Monday, after not being part of the 26-man squad that traveled to Germany. He will be replaced by Koen Casteels in goal.

This is the first major international tournament since Euro 2012 in which Courtois does not feature in the Belgian squad.
