Beyoncé’s Mom Tina Knowles Shows Support for ‘Creative’ Grandchildren Blue, Rumi, Sir With Insight into Family Dynamics


Tina Knowles is the mom to musical sensations Beyoncé and Solange Knowles, business owner, entrepreneur and more, but her favorite role is that of grandmother.

The 70-year-old businesswoman shares her two daughters with her ex-husband Matthew Knowles72 years old, and is the devoted grandmother of four grandchildren in total.

The “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” singer, married to Jay Z since 2008, is the mother of a daughter. Blue ivy12 years old and twins Rumi And Sirsix years, while Solange shares her son Daniel Julez J. Smith Jr., 19 years old, with her ex-husband Daniel Smith.

Tina, during an appearance on the Today Show 4th hour with Hoda and Jennaspoke about both her role as a mother and grandmother and how the family embraces the highly creative spirits of all children.

When asked by co-host Hoda Kotb about being a grandmother, she replied, “It’s the best,” before joking, “I mean, with the grandkids , you don’t have the pressure of taking responsibility for their development, so you can just humor them and let them have noisy toys that drive their parents (crazy).”

She then said: “They’re just the best, they’re the best, my grandkids are all super creative and I love them to death.”

Additionally, she was asked how much the family “monitored” the children’s creative endeavors –– Grammy winner Blue joined her mother on stage and screen, while Daniel just made his debut of model –– Tina shared: “We’re looking but you know, they still have a lot of time.”

She noted: “They’re all great – they’re great artists, visual artists and very intelligent so we don’t know what’s going to happen,” and stressed: “Whatever they want to do, we just want to support them . them.”

Tina also spoke about raising her daughters and how she instilled so much confidence in them, telling the hosts: “Just for them, I think the first thing (I taught them) was to be a good person no matter what you choose to do in life. It sounds like a cliché, but it’s very true.

“Just lessons that I instilled in them, you have to work hard if you want good results, there are no shortcuts, but treat people the way you want to be treated.”

She added fondly: “I am very proud that my daughters –– including Kelly Rowland who came to live with us (when she was 11) –– are, above all, wonderful human beings.”

Finally, when asked how she raised women who were so hardworking and dedicated to their craft, she noted that for Beyoncé and Solange, music was all they ever wanted to do growing up, and so: “I think it’s important not to push them into anything.” direction or to force them to do something, but when they like something, then encourage them and find every opportunity for them to do it.
