Key events
37 minutes: Manchester United’s defense, or complete lack thereof, for this goal was remarkable. Kluivert was given the freedom of the Vitality Stadium as he headed towards United’s penalty area from the left flank. And although I would need to see it again, I think Andre Onana could have done better too. The United goalkeeper, however, was very exposed by his defenders.
AIM! Bournemouth 2-1 Man United (Kluivert 36)
Bournemouth leads again! With the ball at his feet, Kluivert drifts into the huge gap between Diogo Dalot and Willy Kambwala and has all the time in the world to pick his spot before firing the ball into the bottom corner.
34 minutes: Solanke picks out Dango Ouattara with a low pass from behind from deep in the United penalty area. Under pressure from Aaron Wan-Bissaka, the winger takes a shot but sends the ball far from the far post. It was a great opportunity for Bournemouth to regain the lead, but it was wasted.
33 minutes: Marcos Senesi is booked for a robust challenge on Alejandro Garnacho.
AIM! Bournemouth 1-1 Man United (Fernandes 31)
United are tied! Garnacho places the ball from the right and his pass deflects a defender. This suits Fernandes perfectly, who shoots high into the net from the edge of the penalty area.
29 minutes: Bournemouth attack down the left again and Sinisterra throws the unmarked Ryan Christie into a pocket of space just inside the United penalty area. His low shot is directly at Onana.
28 minutes: Ryan Christie tries his luck with an upward drive from distance. The ball fizzes a few centimeters above the crossbar.
24 minutes: Ryan Christie picks out Sinisterra with a pass on the left wing and he cuts inside to combine with Kerkez. The Hungarian international’s heavy touch sends the ball out of play for a goal kick, when a lighter touch could have presented a good shooting opportunity. Bournemouth maintain their lead with great ease.
23 minutes: Watching replays of the Bournemouth goal, it’s probably worth noting that it was a poor touch from Alejandro Garnacho that allowed Solanke to collect the ball and race into the United penalty area before Kambwala It makes it much easier for him to fall.
22 minutes: There is another break in play, so the referee can have his communication device repaired or replaced.
21 minutes: Luis Sinisterra runs into space on the left with Diogo Dalot backing him up. Spying an opportunity to shoot, Sinisterra pulls the trigger and his left-footed effort rolls across the face of goal and narrowly wide of the far post.
20 mins: There is a break in play so that Bouornemouth left-back Milos Kerkez can receive treatment for an injury.
18 minutes: Perhaps after seeing Micky van de Ven’s two fouls in defense for Spurs earlier today, Kambwala decides to follow the Dutchman’s lead. He lost his balance trying to turn around to give Solanke the space he needed to score.
AIM! Bournemouth 1-0 Man United (Solanke 16)
Bournemouth in the lead! In a one-on-one with Will Kambwala, Solanke took advantage of a slip from the teenage defender, prepared to shoot from 20 yards and sent the ball into the bottom left corner. It was a very precise strike.
14 minutes: Kobbie Mainoo tries to play Rasmus Hojlund behind the Bournemouth defense but Marcos Senesi returns the ball to Neto.
12 minutes: Bruno Fernandes sends a high back pass to André Onana from near the halfway line and the goalkeeper is forced to leave his penalty area to deal with the bouncing ball. It briefly looked like things were going to get a little difficult for the United goalkeeper, but he was up to the task at hand. Well, the task is before us.
11 minutes: Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho exchange passes in midfield as the first half passes without much excitement.
10 minutes: Justin Kluivert is penalized for a foul on Harry Maguire deep in United territory. Moments later, Lewis Cook fouled Bruno Fernandes, prompting referee Tony Harrington to blow his whistle again.
8 minutes: Bournemouth launch the ball over the halfway line from deep but Willy Kambwala gets the better of Dominic Solanke in an aerial tussle.
7 minutes: Ryan Christie dribbles into the United penalty area and is forced out. He manages to take a shot from a tight angle, forcing Harry Maguire to block.
6 minutes: These early stages have been quite disjointed, but Manchester United dominate possession as the two teams go toe-to-toe.
4 minutes: Aaron Wan-Bissaka overcooks a pass to the inside left, giving Rashford too much. Neto clears at the back for Bournemouth.
3 minutes: Bournemouth win a corner as Dominic Solanke jumps to contest a high ball into the Manchester United penalty area from Luis Sinisterra. Ryan Christie sends the ball towards the near post, where Bruno Fernandes heads clear.
2 minutes : Illia Zabarnyi hacks the ball upfield for Bournemouth near the corner flag, foiling an early Manchester United attack down the left.
Bournemouth against Manchester United started…
1 minute: Manchester United open the ball in the evening sun, their players wearing white shirts, shorts and socks.
Not long ago now: The players take to the pitch at Vitality Stadium, led by referee Tony Harrington and his team of match officials. Kickoff is only a few minutes away.
Andoni Iraola: “We have the advantage of playing at home, but it will be difficult because they are a very good team with very good players,” said the Bournemouth coach in an interview with Sky Sports. “You have to stay focused for 100 minutes with them because if you make a mistake, normally they score.”
Dominique Solanke: Despite some pre-match concerns over the Bournemouth striker’s fitness, he will start this match hoping to add to the 16 goals he has scored in the Premier League this season. It looked like he got himself into trouble in the warm-up, but he’ll play.
These teams: Manchester United field an unchanged squad from the one that drew against Liverpool last weekend and name several academy graduates on their bench.
Marco Senesi comes in at full-back for Bournemouth, with Lloyd Kelly making way. Higher up the pitch, Luis Sinisterra and Dango Ouattara replace the injured Marcus Tavernier and Antoine Semenyo.

Premier League: Bournemouth v Manchester United
Winless for three games, Manchester United travel to the Vitality Stadium hoping to avenge the cover-up suffered at the hands of Bournemouth at Old Trafford in December. It was a day when the Guardian’s Jamie Jackson described Erik ten Hag’s team as “a scoundrel reminiscent of the Union of Dogs days under his predecessor, Ole Gunnar Solskjær”.
Bournemouth lost at Luton last time out but had already won three in the spin against the Hatters, Everton and Crystal Palace. Andoni Iraola’s side sit in 12th place, comfortably in mid-table and in no danger of relegation. Kick-off on the South Coast is at 5.30pm but we’ll have team and preparation news in the meantime.
