Bluesky users on Android now have access to a new application that works more as Instagram than X. Tuesday, an application called Pink launched a Android version From its experience of photo-centric social networking built above Bluesky.
The application is now one of the many attempts by former Instagram users by offering a user interface similar to the META application, but which is built on open technology. Many newcomers in this space, such as Pinksky, are built above the existing Bluesky social network, allowing them to draw from user connections and social flows.
However, this also limits applications to the own constraints of Bluesky from up to four photos per publication and one -minute videos that can go up to a minute.
Pinksky’s application was built by the developer Ramon SouzaA complete developer whose work has largely focused on working with web technologies.
He told Techcrunch that he was inspired to build Pinksky having already been attracted to open technologies like ActivityPub (the protocol feeding Mastodon), and another nostr of open social protocol. Bluesky, meanwhile, exploits the most recent in the protocol (or ATPROTO), which currently promotes a wave of experimentation from the community of independent developers.
However, while Pinksky looks like Instagram, Souza thinks that applications will reach different audiences.
“There are several user segments in Instagram: those who look at a lot of coils, those who follow content creators and those who want to connect with friends,” he explains, in response to a Techcrunch question . “I think Pinksky is part of the third segment – focused more in photos and connections rather than viral and repetitive content.”
In other words, it’s more a classic Instagram experience focused on sharing photos.
The application was previously available to iOS Where it offers a familiar look of Instagram, which includes user profiles with photos, a flow of photos and videos, and a section of stories, where publications remain visible for only 24 hours. Users can engage with publications by comments and love them, which also dates back to the Bluesky customer application.
Because it is built on Bluesky, user social networks will already be available when they connect to the application for the first time – assuming they have a Bluesky account.
For the moment, the application is only an experience, but Souza says that this could change in case of additional interest. For example, he would consider integration with other technologies, such as Mastodon, Pixelded or Nostr, or execute his own instance. But as it currently covers Pinksky costs, extensions should probably involve a kind of business model – such as paying premium features.
Pinksky competes with other applications under construction in this space, including flashes, pixelles, Reelo and others.
