“Integration in depth is very important,” said you the, founder and managing director of Sino Auto Insights, “because now there is local autonomous AI technology with which Byd can work to offer equivalent intelligent features offered by their competitors. “

“This firmly puts Byd in the driver’s headquarters dictating the rhythm” of technological characteristics, he said, noting that the company had previously delayed its Chinese competitors.

More than two years ago, Chinese car manufacturers had started to offer driver assistance characteristics in order to stand out on the fiercely competitive electric cars market in China. But the management of Byd told investors in March 2023 that when it comes to “smart driving”, it was difficult to determine the responsibility in the event of an accident involving autonomous vehicles. But they noted that advanced assisted driving technology had the potential to improve global security.

More than 20 models with the new BYD driver assistance technology was launched on Monday. The automaker, who quickly expanded abroad, said nothing about global availability.

Tesla is still waiting for approval

The deployment of driver’s assistance in China has faced regulatory restrictions, although an increasing number of local authorities have enabled more cars to use driving software assisted in the streets of the congestioned city.

Chinese startup Xpeng was an early mover, first deploying the driver for urban roads in his City of Guangzhou in September 2022Before expanding to Shenzhen and Shanghai at the beginning of 2023. In February 2024Xpeng said the functionality can be used in most of China. The company’s mass market brand, Mona, launched its first car in August with some driver assistance capacities.

Competing cars of Li Auto, Huawei Partners, Nio and Xiaomi all claim to offer driver assistance functions, such as automatic parking. Several of the car manufacturers use Nvidia chips for cars.

TeslaThe most advanced version of driving assistance, called “Full-Self Driving”, has not yet received Beijing approval despite the repeated statements of Elon Musk that it could be available in China, from The end of 2024. During a call for results in January, Musk attributed the delay to the restrictions and Chinese women which prevent Tesla from rapidly developing a locally consistent version of the driver assistance software.

Although the integration of Deepseek improves the competitive advantage of Byd, Brian Tyngco, analyst at Stansberry Research, warned that collaboration “increases the probability that BYD vehicles will face more difficulties entering Western markets like States -Unis for national security reasons “.
