Canelo vs Munguia live updates
Round 7: Munguia’s pressure doesn’t bother Canelo
In six rounds, Canelo dominated Munguia 111-89. Munguia stays true to his pressure-filled style, but Canelo continues to counter punches effectively, often landing flush as Munguia leaves himself open. Munguia’s pressure is not enough to shake Alvarez who still seems at ease. Everyone landed solid shots, but rounder but stronger shots seemed to come from Canelo.
Round 6: Canelo counterattacks Munguia
Canelo looks to rattle Munguia early on, but the former 154-pound champion continues to fight at close range. Munguia, like Canelo, focused on the body to land a few solid shots, but again, having little effect on Alvarez. Alvarez stays strong on the counter, often catching Munguia as he goes low.
Round 5: Canelo continues to control the fight
Munguia looks fine after the knockdown, but its effects could show as we move forward in the fight. Canelo lands his jab well, which opens up space for quick combinations. Canelo continues to connect on counter shots, while Munguia is still throwing but hasn’t landed anything significant. Solid round for Canelo after the knockdown.
Round 4: Canelo knocks down Munguia
Munguia continues to look sharp, standing in the pocket with Canelo. He works behind the jab and continues his classic punching combination. Canelo doesn’t seem phased by the shots, but many land nonetheless. In the final minute, Canelo caught Munguia with a series of counters and an uppercut knocked him down, the first knockdown of Munguia’s career. Round 10-8 for Canelo.
Round 3: Munguia lands on combinations
Canelo stays focused on Munguia’s body, landing venomous shots. Munguia continues to use the jab but failed to keep Canelo too far away, Munguia however is very used to fighting in the pocket. Munguia pushed Canelo into the corner, but Canelo’s defense held firm as he returned to the center of the ring. Munguia unloads on Canelo in the final seconds of the round, although Alvarez manages to block a decent number of shots.
Round 2: Canelo becomes more comfortable
Canelo isn’t afraid to stay on the inside against Munguia, continuing to advance while eating away at Munguia’s body. Munguia responds with quick combinations often connecting with Canelo’s head and body, but Alvarez barely takes a step back when he counters. Good response for Canelo as he lands 16 punches.
Round 1: Munguia starts well
The first round was a real emotion between the two Mexicans, but heated up in the last seconds of the fight. Munguia attempted to establish the jab in the opening minutes, using his height advantage to keep the distance. Canelo worked his way inside as the round progressed, landing solid body shots while Munguia quickly fired back. Munguia landed a multitude of solid shots and should secure the round.

Canelo vs Munguia Prediction
Even though Canelo is the favorite for good reason, it’s not crazy to believe in Munguia’s potential on Saturday.
Munguia is an all-action fighter who rarely backs down. He constantly pressures his opponents throughout the fight, unleashing barrages on his opponents at close range. That pressure and the distance at which Munguia fights Alvarez will likely determine the fight.
If he can get inside Alvarez, he could be successful, but historically Munguia’s high-octane offensive approach has made him susceptible to being countered, something Alvarez is an expert at.
Munguia’s pressure might make Alvarez uncomfortable, but somewhere around the middle rounds Alvarez will likely read Munguia’s forward attacks and pick him apart with counterpunches.
It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Alvarez find his rhythm in the middle and end of the fight and catch Munguia with a big countershot that puts him down. Ultimately, Munguia can make this fight exciting for as long as it lasts, but ultimately Alvarez will be able to catch him with his guard down and although Munguia has shown a strong chin in the past, few possess power like Alvarez.
