Capello believes Serie A style of play is harming Leao’s Euro 2024 campaign

Fabio Capello believes the pace of Serie A is what is contributing to Rafael Leao struggling to impose himself at the European Championship so far.

There were doubts whether Leao would start in Portugal’s second group game last night and even if he did, he only lasted 45 minutes and did not come on for the second half. criticized by the media for not having had much impact.

After being booked in the first game against the Czech Republic for what was deemed to be diving, he received another yellow card for simulation, meaning he will be suspended for the final group game next week.

Capello spoke to Sky and was asked why Leao was decisive for Milan but struggled to reach the same heights regularly for his country. His answer was relayed by MilanNews, and he blamed the league.

“Why is Leao decisive in Serie A and struggling in the Euros? In Italy we play at a slow pace and with his speed he creates problems for everyone,” he said.

“We saw Spain against Italy playing at a high pace and having fast players who dribbled well. In Italy, there are few players who dribble apart from Leao. So, it becomes uncontrollable even for defenders who are used to defending.”
