Kyle Adam Carrozza, creator of the Cartoon Network series Powerful magic swords, was arrested last month by the Burbank Police Department on two counts of possession of child pornography.
Carrozza, 45, was arrested at an apartment complex in Burbank, California on Thursday morning, June 20, at 7:30 a.m. The arrest was part of an investigation by the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. The arrest was reported in the Burbank Police Department’s daily arrest log (download PDF).
Carrozza Powerful Magic Swords debuted on Cartoon Network’s CN Anything app as a 15-second micro-series in 2015. The show was “tailor-made for the way young audiences consume media today,” Cartoon Network’s then-chief content officer Rob Sorcher said in 2016. “It’s about how stories can be told in new ways and how a community can play together.”
Nearly 400 platform-specific content pieces were created around Carrozza’s show, including short films, vlogs, web/mobile games, and interactive narrative content. Then, in 2016, Cartoon Network spun the project into a linear television series, which ran for two seasons and over 90 episodes.
According to Carrozza’s Linkedin page, he was most recently a graphic designer on the Nickelodeon television series The Fairly OddParents: A New Wish And The movie Casagrandes. His other credits include storyboarding on Warner Bros. Animation The Animaniacs reboot, Apple TV+ The Snoopy Show, Disney Junior Doctor plush, Disney Fish hooks, Frederator The bravest warriorsand Nickelodeon Fanboy and Chum Chum, in addition to doing character layouts at Paramount SpongeBob: The sponge comes out of the water. He also created the short film MooBeard the Cow Pirate for Nickelodeon Random! Cartoons.
Carrozza was charged under California Penal Code Section 311.11(a), which pertains to possession of child pornography, and an enhanced charge under Section 311.11(c), which pertains to knowingly possessing 12 or more videos, or 600 images, of child pornography.
These offenses can be classified as misdemeanors or felonies and carry a possible sentence of up to one year in county jail or up to five years in state prison. If convicted of either charge, Carrozza will be ordered to register as a sex offender with law enforcement. The offenses he is charged with do not apply to drawings, figurines, statues or films classified by the Motion Picture Association.
