Cortez Masto supports the invoice to extend surveys on money laundering to include crypto

American senator Catherine Cortez Masto, D-NEVADA, supports a bill that would allow federal police to investigate money involving cryptocurrencies and other digital active ingredients.

Cortez Masto’s office says that she and Senator Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, reintroduced the fight against money laundering in cybercrime.

The current law puts companies without license to transmit money outside the scope of American secret services.

Cortez Masto says that his bill will update the law to give the American secret services fully the power to investigate new forms of illicit funding, such as the use of cryptocurrency for drug trafficking and ransomware attacks.

“Dangerous criminals are constantly changing tactics and use new technologies to avoid detection,” the senator said in a statement. “Our law enforcement organizations must adapt to ensure the safety of communities.”

Although known mainly to protect the president and other figures, the American secret services are also investigating crimes related to financial systems, including counterfeiting, banking fraud and metal transfers.
