Dak Prescott expected to get ‘blank check’ to leave Dallas Cowboys for Raiders, ESPN says

The Dak Prescot contract saga will drag on until Dallas Cowboys training camp in late July, with the star quarterback set to hit the open market after the season if a new deal isn’t reached.

Reports have suggested that Prescott is looking for $60 million per year in his next contract after Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars agreed to a staggering five-year extension worth $275 million.

If Prescott becomes an NFL free agent, a bidding war will ensue, making it difficult for the Cowboys to renew their star signal-caller’s contract. Because the Cowboys played the waiting game, once again, with Prescott, his price continues to climb, and he may now be out of their price range — especially with CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons also in the running for new contracts.

But what could this mean for Prescott’s next step?

ESPN’s Mike Tannenbaum suggested that the Las Vegas Raiders should actively pursue Prescott and do whatever it takes to get him.

“If I was (Raiders owner) Mark Davis … I’d have a countdown clock in my office, and that plane would be fueled and ready to go,” Tannenbaum told ESPN’s Ryan Clark. Get up“And I’m giving Dak Prescott a blank check to go with Brock Bowers and Davante Adams.”

The two best quarterbacks on the Raiders’ current roster are Aidan O’Connell and Gardner Minshew. There’s no denying that Prescott would be an upgrade.

It would also maximize the potential of Raiders rookie tight end Brock Bowers, who was the 13th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and All-Pro receiver Davante Adams.

And if anyone was crazy enough to offer a “blank check” and pay whatever it would take to secure a star quarterback for a possible Super Bowl run, it would be Mark Davis. So if Prescott hits the open market, Vegas would be a team to watch.

Last season, Prescott had one of the best seasons of his career. He threw for 4,516 yards, an NFL-record 36 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. That effort earned him a second-team All-Pro nomination and an invitation to his third career Pro Bowl. He will now focus on the 2024-25 season, with his 2025 destination uncertain.
