Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero won’t judge Max Allegri’s work but says the Bianconeri will ‘make decisions’ and thinks ‘something strange’ will happen in tonight’s Milan derby.
Juventus and Italy legend Alessandro Del Piero has spoken about his former club and tonight’s derby between Milan and Inter in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Juventus will meet Lazio in the second leg of the Coppa Italia semi-finals on Tuesday. Bianconeri boss Massimiliano Allegri faces an uncertain future in Turin, but Del Piero has not judged the Livorno-born coach.
Del Piero on Juventus’ Allegri decision
“I don’t want to be involved in this. But I read a lot about Allegri and Juventus. Things are pretty clear, but it depends on how you see the situation,” the former striker said.
“We can say that Allegri and Juventus did everything they could or vice versa. Or a mixture of both things.
“It’s a delicate moment for Juventus and it’s been the same for a few years. They have faced many challenges on and off the field, so they need to work things out,” he continued.
“It’s a long road. It’s not easy because you don’t have time to devote to Juventus and the world is watching you. There is great pressure and it must be transformed into positive energy. Juventus did this for several months, but now they don’t do it anymore. Those inside will make assessments and decisions, I am an outsider.
Del Piero’s strange derby prediction
On the other hand, Inter will win the Serie A title tonight if they beat city rivals Milan.
“I have a few friends from Milan and a few friends from Inter,” Del Piero said.
“It’s amazing how they are going through this thing, but I keep telling them: ‘Think how upset we Juventus fans are…’ However, Inter deserved to win the title because they have proven themselves to be the better team throughout the season. The great thing about these games is that when everything seems settled, something strange always happens.
Inter have lost just one game this season and enjoy a 14-point lead over their city rivals with six matches remaining.
Daniele De Rossi’s Roma also play today, hosting direct rivals Bologna at the Stadio Olimpico. Is Del Piero surprised by De Rossi’s impact at the club?
“Yes and no. I took the coaching course with Daniele and I am finishing it now. His attitude, his football knowledge and his energy do not surprise me,” said ADP.
“The results may be a bit surprising, but the Roma team is excellent. It’s not easy to do this well in Europe. Sometimes things work out. I am happy for Daniele because he is an exceptional boy and he deserves it.
