Delays threaten key functionality, report complaints

Apple Intelligence is the renowned characteristic of iOS 18, and one of the greatest developments, a significant upgrade by the intelligent assistant Siri, could be confronted with possible delays, affirms a new report.

“The overhaul promised by Apple Inc. for the digital assistant Siri is faced with engineering problems and software bugs, threatening to postpone or limit their version, according to people with knowledge of the case,” reports Mark Gurman for Bloomberg.

The improved SIRI, designed to be more personal and understand the context, still arrives, but Apple “flows to finish the software,” says Gurman. The result could be that certain features, although not all, which were to land in April with iOS 18.4 could be postponed until the iOS 18.5 version is waiting in May or later.

The most personal Siri must be carried out in different ways, including Siri’s ability to integrate user data to improve requests to requests and a means for Siri to control a user’s applications more precisely.

Apple did not set a date for these improvements to arrive, but Gurman understands that the plan was to present them in April. This means that some of the most impressive capacities could be kept, such as that demonstrated last June where Siri was able to locate the flight of a parent and restaurant reservation by scraping emails and text messages.

Gurman underlines that the iOS 18.4 update, but not at the general exit that in April, according to him, could arrive for the developers in a few days. “Another option on the table is to include the features of the April version, but deactivate them by default. In this scenario, Apple could then activate them automatically in the iOS 18.5 update, “he says.

Of course, Apple prefers to delay that deliver something that does not work properly, especially when it is such a central part of the promise iOS 18. On the other hand, delay something that was teased in June up to 11 months later is not ideal.

There are more Apple Intelligence features on their way, including the sorting of e-mails for iPad and Mac, a new style of image creation in Image Playground and more. Some of them should always arrive in iOS 18.4 even if Siri upgrade is delayed.

Exactly what happens will become clearer as soon as the developer’s beta version is published in the coming days.
