Here’s a look at last week’s prep sports:
BARTLESVILLE GIRLS GOLF: Going to state has become a habit for Eve Vaclaw. For the second straight season, the junior forward qualified for the Big Swing, which took place earlier this week in Stillwater. Vaclaw shot 102-105 to shoot 207 and finish in the top 70. She had qualified for state by shooting 91 at the regional. Coach Andy Thurman is expected to fire his entire team next year.
BARTLESVILLE BOYS GOLF: Jay Wasemiller finishes his freshman campaign alongside the state’s top 6A linkssters. Wasemiller shot 76 in this week’s regionals to clinch a spot in next week’s state meet. Other regional scores for the Bruins were: Nash Zervas (85), Lucas Wyatt (88), Cooper Wood (108) and Reid Ryal (126). All but Wood are expected to return next season, coach Carl Holmes said. At the Bixby meet late last month, Wasemiller shot 77, followed by Wyatt (85), Zervas (91), Ryal (109) and Wood (116). In the conference competition, Wasemiller came in with 79, followed by Zervas (84), Wyatt (86), Ryal (108) and Will Patton (118).
BARTLESVILLE BOYS SOCCER: Coach Cedric Muteshi has a lot to look forward to next season after his Bruins suffered a close playoff exit to Yukon, 3-2. At least nine Bartlesville games have been decided by a goal or shootout.
DEWEY GIRLS GOLF: Dewey qualified its entire team for state. Team results were: Paige Creek (191, 29th), Maycee Smith (207, 50th), Leigha Sauret (223), Nevaeh Straley (227) and Addison Russell (250).
BARTLESVILLE SOFTBALL: The Lady Bruins (22-12) saw their first-ever trip to the state tournament end with a 13-1 quarterfinal loss to No. 1-ranked Choctaw. Early mistakes allowed Choctaw to take a big lead, BHS coach Kyle Minton said, adding that he was proud of his team. He bids farewell to just two seniors, Chelsea Goddard and Allie Scullawl. One of the team’s highlights this year was hitting around 60 home runs, compared to 15 or 16 the year before.
BARTLESVILLE BASEBALL: The Bruins saw their rebuilding campaign end at the regional level in a competitive performance. They opened by beating host Tulsa Union, 2-1, but then lost to Sand Springs, 8-1, and Union, 6-1.
BARTLESVILLE TRACK: Some favorites (Top-6 seeds) to advance to this weekend’s regional for the state meet. Obviously others not mentioned could also get the state grade.
