First warning added for Saturday evening/Sunday morning

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A new first warning is in place from Saturday night into Sunday morning, especially for those south of I-70. There is a slight level 2/5 risk for our southern counties, with those along I-70 having a marginal level 1/5 risk. Basically, the farther south you live from I-70, especially in Anderson, Linn, Bates and Henry counties, you will have a higher risk of severe weather tonight. Generally, the chances only increase after 10 p.m. Very heavy rain will also be expected towards the south. Some spots can reach between 1 and 3 inches, with isolated spots even taller. Please be careful of low-lying flooded areas. Gusty winds and hail are the main concerns. I think for those of us along I-70 and in the KC metro, we could get a few hours of showers late tonight, between midnight and early Sunday. Our grave threat doesn’t look very promising. The first few hours you wake up on Sunday may see a random shower or two, but the day will dry out and the sun will return. Highs will be in the 80s with lower humidity. The same thing happens Monday, with lower humidity and high temperatures near 80. Humidity really increases for the second half of next week. We’re looking downright sticky with highs near 90 starting Wednesday and Thursday. I see some small signs of a storm or two next weekend, but nothing significant.

SECURITIES:

-NEW, I added a first warning for this evening/Sunday morning. There is a chance of stronger thunderstorms in our southern viewing area, but I still think we could see some rain and rumbling along I-70 through Sunday morning. Sunday returns at noon.

-Not as hot Sunday and Monday. The heat returns late next week with several small chances of fleeting showers/storms. Nothing significant yet. Several days with temperatures near 90 with high humidity.
