The aesthetic changes of Gboard for Android continue with Google introducing the circle or the keys in the shape of a pill for certain beta testers today.
Instead, the key borders are rounded rectangles, Gboard goes to circles and pills for letters, while the space bar and the other keys are now in the shape of a pill. Although there should not be a functional change to touch the targets, these new forms really move Gbord’s appearance for Android.
On paper, it is a little more modern (and rounded) compared to what preceded. However, it is a bit cramped if you have “a long pressure for the symbols” activated, which goes from the upper right corner to be directly above the letter. The physical analog goard is moving away is how most of the touches on laptops and office computers are square.
As a reminder, you can deactivate the key borders from the Gbord settings> Theme> Make a selection.
This change is Appearing for some Users of Gboard Beta (version 15.1) Thursday. It is not yet widely available for those of this preview program.
It follows Gbord to simplify the dynamic theme in just two shades and modify the shortcut button in the suggestion strip. However, the change of today is certainly more substantial, and we will see if Google largely launches the design.
