Google draws from the main research application to iOS

Google draws its gemini assistant AI from the main Google application for iOS devices. This decision aims to encourage users to download the Gemini autonomous application instead, which would allow Google to compete more directly with other AI chatbots oriented towards consumers such as Chatgpt, Claude or Perplexity. However, the change could also risk reducing the scope of Gemini, as Google’s application is already used by millions, and many are not motivated enough to download other new mobile applications.

The technology giant has alerted change customers via an email that warned “Gemini is no longer available in the Google application”.

The email suggested that anyone who still wanted to use Gemini on iOS download the Gemini application from the App Store. This application has been launched to iOS users from around the world at the end of last year, but so far, Gemini has also continued to be available in the main Google application.

With Gemini for iOS, people will be able to engage in vocal conversations with the AI assistant via Gemini Live; Connect their Google apps such as research, YouTube, Maps and Gmail to Gemini; Ask questions and explore subjects; plan trips; obtain summaries AI and deep dives; create images; And more. Users can interact with Gemini via text, voice or using the camera.

E-mail also reminds users that Gemini can always make mistakes, so that users continue to continue to recheck their answers.

Customers who wish to switch to the paying subscription that gives access to Gemini Advanced can also do so via the iOS application, where the IA Google One AI Prime Plan is offered as an application.

If an iOS customer tries to access the gemini via the main Google application, he will see a full screen message appear which says that “Gemini now has its own application” and links to the download of the App Store.

It is a risky bet on the Google part to try to push users to download an application instead of continuing to offer the features within the application that most already have on their phones. Although this can facilitate the deployment of new AI features quickly, it is likely that there will also be a little deposit in the use of Gemini, because some do not inevitably make change.
