In November 2023, the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) announcement Aliro as a new standard for intelligent locks, and Google Wallet is now adding assistance.
The CSA is the group behind the material in smart homes. Aliro is a “standardized communication protocol between access readers [doors or other entry points] And user devices ”, such as smartphones and portable devices.
At the time, the use of communication in the nearby field (NFC), Bluetooth Low Energy (Le) and Ultra-Large Bang (UWB) was mentioned. Aliro has four principles:
- Simplicity – lower barrier to implementation by reducing complexity for the integration and rationalization of troubleshooting.
- Flexibility – Supports different types of installations or architectures, providing practical access to common and individual entry points.
- Security – Foundation to implement secure and reliable advanced mobile access solutions.
- Interoperability – The standardized communication protocol allows independent devices and readers of the manufacturer to work together at the door.
It is supported by the following companies: Allegion, Apple, Assa Abloy, Google, Infineon, Kastle Systems, Last Lock, NXP Semiconductors, Qualcomm, Samsung and Stmicroelectronics.
With the 25.11 version of Play Services, Google presents “support for the Aliro protocol on NFC players in Google Wallet” on Android Phones and Wear OS.
Of course, it could be some time before you can really use it given the lack of certified locks, assuming that only the new equipment is supported.
