Google is about to add real desktop operating system capacities to Android, and proof is in Android 16.
Android authority was able to find external monitor tools in the following operating system, currently in beta test, which indicates Google’s intentions. Currently, if you connect an Android phone via USB to an external monitor, it is by default in a screen mirror.
However, hidden in developer options, is a way to extend the smartphone display to the external monitor. The solution is naked at the moment – the mouse is fixed to a single screen and cannot move between the screens, and you must reconnect to switch between mirroring and extension.
But it seems that Google has hidden solutions in place to allow the mouse cursor to move between the screens. In the future, users will have access to tools like those of Windows PCs – you can change the position of the external display, modify the scaling (text size and icons) separately on the external display.
This is an indication that Google will aim to transform Android into a desktop operating system in the event of need, and that it can even shape Chrome OS into Android.
