Grab announces collaboration with OpenAI to “create and deploy advanced AI solutions”

SINGAPORE: Technology companies Grab and OpenAI announced on Thursday (May 30) that they would “collaborate to create and deploy” advanced artificial intelligence (AI) solutions.

Grab said the collaboration is the first of its kind for OpenAI in Southeast Asia and would access OpenAI’s tools to “partner on solutions” for users in the region.

This will initially focus on three areas: accessibility, customer support and mapping.

“Grab will leverage the use of industry-leading text and voice capabilities to make Grab’s services more accessible to all users, particularly the visually impaired or elderly who may otherwise struggle to navigate the app interface on screen,” the company said.

It will also explore the use of AI to create customer support chatbots that can “better understand user issues and resolve them faster.”

Grab will also “look to leverage OpenAI’s vision capabilities” to improve its map creation efforts through greater automation and higher quality data extraction from visual images.

“This means GrabMaps can be updated even faster, providing a better experience for consumers and driver partners,” the ride-hailing app company said.

Grab also intends to deploy ChatGPT Enterprise among “selected employees” in an initial pilot project.
