As the clock expired, the Cougars used a thrilling 12-second drive to regain the lead.
Houston – In the historic first meeting between the two programs, the University of Houston football team used a last-second Hail Mary to defeat rv/rv West Virginia 41-39, giving the Cougars the Big 12 win. The league’s first win.
Trailing 35-39 with 12 seconds left, the Cougars (3-3, 1-2 Big 12) used two carries for 57 yards rushing and were capped by the junior quarterback’s 49 yards Drill touchdown pass capped Donovan Smith to second-year outfielder Stephen Johnson Defeated the Mountaineers (4-2, 2-1 Big 12) by two points.
