Here is how Apple plans to repair Siri in iOS 19

It goes without saying that Apple’s approach to develop its infused version at Siri’s AI was very mistaken in many ways. Most of the features intended to be shipped alongside iOS 18 have not yet arrived, despite 10 months after the initial unveiling of iOS 18. Apple has even officially confirmed the delayed launch, declaring that the functionalities will be launched “the coming year”.

However, according to many reports – Apple has a strategy to bounce back with iOS 19. This is how.

The problem

To put it short, the ultimate problem with Siri is that Apple had to precipitate things together for the unveiling of iOS 18.

Apple would have liked to rewrite Siri’s architecture before the release of iOS 18, but finally – they did not have time to do so. By Bloomberg::

The current iOS 18 version of Siri essentially has two brains: one that exploits the inherited Siri commands, such as timeries and the pastime, and another which manages more advanced requests. The latter capacity will be able to press user data and is already used so as not to be confused when people change their requests in the middle of the order.

In order to bring the Apple door out as part of iOS 18, the company did not have time to merge the two systems together. This means that the software does not work as well as possible.

Ideally, this merged system would have worked very well. However, this approach has proven to be far from smooth. The engineers were constantly fighting through an “bug eruption”, and finally things did not work as planned. The Vice-President of Apple Craig Federighi software finally expressed his concerns that none of the features worked as planned.

How Apple aims to repair things

With iOS 19, Apple intends to rebuild Siri architecture from zero. This will ideally allow the three Siri features promised for iOS 18.4 to finally materialize. In addition, Apple has undergone major leadership reshuffles in its department of AI, which will ideally lead to better execution.

Here are the details on the new Siri architecture of Apple, by Mark Gurman:

For iOS 19, Apple’s plan is to merge the two systems together and deploy a new SIRI architecture. I expect this to be introduced from the global conference of Apple developers in June of this year – with a launch of spring 2026 as part of iOS 19.4.

This new system will finally eliminate architecture LERI The heritage, that which has remained with us for more than a decade.

Finally and above all, Apple recently gave the keys to Siri to the pro Mike Rockwell vision manager, and he quickly revised leadership:

Mike Rockwell, head of the assistant engineering, replaces a large part of Siri’s leadership with lieutenants of his Vision Pro software group, according to people knowing the issue. It also restructures teams related to speech, understanding, performance and user experience.

Many Apple employees working on Siri would have complained about its leadership, so it is also a significant change.

Although it is too early to call, it certainly seems that Apple will have its strategy has much more extensive this year than at WWDC24.
