How to Quickly Customize Your iPhone Home Screen Widgets with iOS 18


Apple released iOS 18.2 in October, more than a month after the tech company’s exit iOS 18.1. iOS 18.2 brings some new features Apple Intelligence features to some iPhones, but iOS 18 also gives you more possibilities to personalize your iPhone. The operating system allows you to customize your lock screen And home screenand it allows you to turn your home screen apps into widgets and resize these widgets easily.

In previous versions of iOS, you had to delete a widget if you didn’t like its size. After removing it, you will have to go through the whole process of choosing the right size, adding it to your screen, and then finding the right place for it. Now you don’t need to follow these extra steps and can instantly resize your widget.

How to Add Widgets to Your Home Screen

Long-press an app until a menu appears. Then you will see new tiled icons in the form of different widgets.

Some apps, like Weather, show four different sized options: the app icon, a small thumbnail, a longer thumbnail, and then a large thumbnail that looks like a full page. Other apps, like Contacts, will only show the thumbnail icon and another thumbnail option. Tap the size of widget you want to try and your app will expand on your home screen in real time. Some apps, like Messages, don’t have widgets, so you won’t see these options.

Before iOS 18, you had to long press on your home screen, tap the plus (+) sign in the upper right corner of your screen, then search for the correct widget. Now you can easily add widgets without searching for them.

How to Change the Size of Widgets on Your Home Screen

You can also change the size of widgets in the same way. Long-press a widget until the menu appears, then select the size of the widget you want to try.

If you’ve arranged your apps in a particular way around your Home screen, adding or changing the size of widgets will likely disrupt your personalized layout. Unfortunately, I haven’t found a way to lock custom app layouts. So you may need to rearrange your apps after adding a widget or changing its size.
