I did not plan to leave Siri. We had a good thing in progress – or at least, I thought we had done it.
As long as I had an iPhone (17 years old), Siri was my go-to for most bases. Defining alarms, sending rapid texts and occasionally triggering of chaos when he confused “play Beyoncé” to “call Brian”.
But now that the vocal assistant of Perplexity Ai landed on iOS, I realized how much I settled.
Honestly, perplexity looks like the AI assistant that I always thought that Siri would become. Here is why he won a permanent place on my home screen – and why I officially change.

It really makes things
Siri’s biggest thing has always sent me to Safari. Ask a question, and I will often get a list of links or a wave: “Here is what I found.” Perplexity, on the other hand, acts.
Discussing with perplexity is already more natural, as if I was actually talking with an assistant and not a search engine.
Need a booking for dinner? It reserves by open. Admittedly, users are always required to manually finish the final booking stages, but perplexity allows you to be halfway.
Do you want to send a quick email? Perplexity writes and sends the email as long as you have given the necessary authorizations for the AI to do it on your behalf. Note, if the authorizations are not granted, the assistant will ask for more information.
Using perplexity, I defined reminders in my Google calendar, I looked for anecdotes and I even planned a day simply using voice commands.
Discussing with perplexity is already more natural, as if I was actually talking with an assistant and not a search engine. Until now, perplexity has been more a research chatbot AI than the assistant.
It works with third -party applications
It could be my favorite game. Perplexity plays well with the applications that I already use. From Uber to Apple Music, he jumps into the action instead of launching a wall.
Siri, however? If it is not an Apple-Native application, good luck. Sometimes it works, sometimes it raises the shoulders and opens the application without doing anything.
Another bonus, I really appreciate the functionality of news. Because perplexity is fundamentally a search engine, the application automatically presents new trends every day.
This feature works in a similar way to Apple News, offering a practical way to stay up to date without any additional effort
It continues to operate when the application is closed
It changes the game for me. Perplexity does not stop working when you leave the application.
Now I can jump to send an email or scroll Instagram, and he doesn’t lose the thread. There remains a real assistant; Not the one who forgets the whole second, I slip.
It works on older iPhones
One of the biggest surprises? The Perplexity assistant works very well on older iPhones – including my husband’s iPhone 12. There is no need to make follies on the last material just to have the impression of having entered the future.
Compare this to Apple Intelligence, which completely jumps from models like its own. This exclusivity seems dated in 2025.
It’s not perfect
Perplexity cannot (yet) define alarms or access iOS native features such as activation of not disturbing. And it does not support screen sharing or prompts based on the camera as does Chatgpt or Gemini Live.
But honestly? He manages the majority of the tasks that are close to my heart and does them better than Siri. It is a compromise that I will take. I am really enthusiastic about the idea that perplexity continues to evolve and potentially widens the possibilities of what it can do as an assistant.
Do you want to try it?
If you want to try perplexity on your iPhone, here is what to do:
- Download The applest application of the App Store.
- Granting authorization such as access to microphones, access to reminders, access to the calendar, access to contacts, access to the location and notifications. You do it through the settings and can activate and deactivate according to your preferences.
- Ask next. Simple requests to complex tasks
You will quickly know if he clicks. For me, he clicked after only a few prompts.
End
Siri was walking so that perplexity could run. And although Apple’s AI roadmap has always taken shape and that a new Siri is promised, it is not yet there.
Perplexity is there now. And it’s fast, flexible and really useful. This is the kind of vocal assistant that I expected for my part.
So yes … Sorry, Siri. It’s not me. It’s you.
