Inside Alex Cooper and Matt Kaplan’s Intimate Beachside Wedding in Riviera Maya

Alex’s brother Grant officiated at the wedding. “He was instrumental throughout my life, and he and Matt built a really strong bond,” Alex says. “My brother has done an incredible job speaking so highly about our relationship.” The couple also chose not to share their vows until after the ceremony itself. “Even though my life is pretty public, the real bond and intimate connection that Matt and I have, we actually keep it pretty private,” she says. “So having our families and closest friends hear us express our feelings about each other in the most intimate setting was electric – as you’ll see in almost every photo, there was no d ‘dry eyes in sight. We will never forget this moment.

Instead of jumping straight into taking portraits, the bride and groom thought it would be more fun to have all of their guests walk out with them, follow them down the aisle, and head straight to cocktail hour. “It was the perfect way to start the evening, have a few drinks and, if I’m being real, allow my guests to see my dress up close and take a few photos before moving on to my next outfit. Priorities! Because with a change of venue, came the bride’s next outfit change. Guests were escorted from cocktail hour to the beach where there was an open-air tent. “You could hear the waves in the background as we sat and ate dinner,” says Alex. “As Matt and I both have two left feet, we opted out of a first dance and once again did things our own way…we instead had a first photo with all of our guests.”

After speeches from family and friends, everyone headed to the dance floor. “And I know what you’re thinking: A small, intimate wedding sounds like a potential recipe for an extremely awkward dance floor, but that couldn’t have been further from reality,” Alex says. “The vibrations were impeccable. There was dancing, bottles being handed out, crowd surfing…and again, I’m not a dancer, but no one cared that night. Everyone was in seventh heaven. » For the finale, Alex’s dad got on the microphone and announced to everyone that everyone would be running into the ocean: dresses, suits and all. “I might have expected only my close friends to join us, but to my shock, almost the entire wedding took place in the ocean,” Alex recalls. “Parents, grandparents, family and friends. »

Many post-wedding brides say their wedding day is a blur, but Alex wouldn’t describe it that way at all. “Matt and I both intended to make the weekend about being present with each other, our friends and our family, and that’s exactly what we did,” she says. “There is no detail or moment that I will not remember and I will forever cherish this celebration of our love.”
