Apple released the third public beta of iOS 18.3 to developers and public beta testers on Thursday. The release comes more than a week after the company’s release iOS 18.2.1. While Apple fixed a few bugs with this update, the latest beta introduces some improvements to developers’ and beta testers’ iPhones, including updates to Apple Intelligence notification summaries.

Since this is a beta version, I recommend only downloading it on a device other than your primary device. As this is not the final version of iOS 18.3, the update may be buggy and battery life may be short, so these issues are best kept on a secondary device.
Note that the beta is not the final version of iOS 18.3, so there might be more features landing on your iPhone when iOS 18.3 is released. It is not yet clear when Apple will release iOS 18.3 to the public.
Here’s what iOS 18.3 could soon bring to your iPhone. And just a reminder that only developers and beta testers with an iPhone 15 Pro, Pro Max, or the iPhone 16 line can access Apple Intelligence features at this time. If you have another iPhone, you will not have access to these features.
AI Notification Summary Updates
The iOS 18.3 beta release brings some adjustments to Apple Intelligence notification summaries. With this feature, some of your apps can provide you with notification summaries on your lock screen, and the feature is enabled by default in most cases. But according to the BBCone of the publication’s titles was inaccurately summarized.
With the beta, this feature no longer works for the News app, and there is a disclaimer in the Summarize Notifications menu in Settings that says: “Summaries may contain errors.” According to 9to5MacNotification summaries are temporarily disabled for apps in the News & Entertainment category.
The beta also italics AI notification summaries on your lock screen to distinguish them from other notifications. You can also turn off AI notification summaries for certain apps from your lock screen, by lightly swiping left on the notification, tapping Possibilities then typing Turn off summaries.
Repeat operations in the calculator
One thing developers and beta testers can do in the iOS 18.3 beta is repeat operations in the Calculator app without re-entering the equation. This isn’t new, but Apple removed this calculator feature when the company released iOS 18 in September.
Now developers and beta testers can keep doubling something, such as just pressing the equal sign multiple times instead of typing an equation over and over again.
Although there aren’t many changes in the update, this is only the third public beta of iOS 18.3. There will likely be more beta versions before the operating system is released to the public, giving Apple plenty of time to add new features and improve others. As of now, it is unclear when Apple will release iOS 18.3 to the general public.
